about

“Soul Climate” is the first new solo release from D.D.Danahy in four years, and the first to be released for streaming. This EP marks my return to producing and releasing my solo music again and I am hoping it will be the first of many to come.

The music on this EP is meant to express the different emotions I have been processing in these past few years, and the events of those years. I have often found that I can say more without saying anything at all by keeping the songs instrumental, so that is what I did.

My intention when I decided to make an EP was to write every track starting on my Jonas Guitars acoustic played fingerstyle, that is to say with a sort of arpeggiated chord progression. I tried to keep things simple, not a lot of chord changes, and not too many different sections of the songs either.

Once I recorded and arranged my acoustic guitar parts, I came up with two microfreak parts to go along with, generally melodic to the guitar part but harmonic to each other, I also tried to stick to monophonic parts on that synth. It rewards the player for being simple. Usually one of those parts became a theme of sorts.

From there I would add bass guitar, and whatever I did on the bass usually dictated to me where the drums should go as I like to center the drum beat on the bass line. So the next track was drums on each of these songs.

I did some decisive cutting after that, since I had enough instruments in the production I felt I could have certain things happen less frequently in the songs.

From there I added lead guitar, using my Ibanez Artcore or the Bass VI, often I doubled up or harmonized with the themes I came up with earlier on the Microfreak synthesizer.

All of the songs have around 6 tracks, I doubled some tambourine in one of them.
