Combat the Self

about

Stop beating yourself up.

lyrics

Every time I go off on a tangent
I suddenly forgot just where I was
I could be maybe out of luck
or I'm just making it up
and I want to play a game now, "just because"
everyone wants to tell you your opinion
but they never want to hear it from your mouth
you can't believe all that you read
you'll still see what you want to see
but reality can sometimes rule you out...

we combat the self
nothing in here to fear but fear itself
gonna put myself away
and throw away the key
never gonna let in anybody else

leaning right back to make my mouth open wider
wide enough to just insert my foot
sometimes I don't know what to say
but I say it anyway
surprised myself, and never thought I could.
someone go get another glass of whiskey
anybody see where I just left that joint?
the further I am from me,
I can deny responsibility
after all now, isn't that the point?

we combat the self
nothing in here to fear but fear itself
gonna put myself away
and throw away the key
never gonna let in anybody else

I NEVER should have stayed late at that party
I NEVER should have played that video
if I let my defenses down
around the people in this town
I could find myself the star of my own show.
I think I might have some kind of social problem,
or maybe there's something I have, others lack
I throw caution to the wind..
(that's how I'm in the state I'm in)
it always turns around and kicks me in the ass.

we combat the self
nothing in here to fear but fear itself
gonna put myself away
and throw away the key
never gonna let in anybody else
